- The first is to love God above all
- The second is to love our neighbours as ourselves [Matt 22:36-39]
In my previous write up i defined value as something weighty or heavy and deserves attention.
In other to get the best out of any relationship in particular our marriage, we need to learn to value our spouse. Consider them weighty, heavy and give them the best of your attention or priority.
Your thoughts might be you don't know the woman/man am leaving with he/she does not deserve any value, or i have given all i can give. I can't give anymore.
Let me remind you of God's promise in [1Pe 3:12- 13] it reads that "......the eyes of the Lord are on the upright, and his ears are open to their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil. Who will do you any damage if you keep your minds fixed on what is good?"
Only if you can trust God enough to do what He says He would do, you will have no regret on valuing your spouse.
Characteristics of Value
- It is not a feeling it is a decision
- Honours are not earned they are given
- It is an attitude
- It does not cast pearls before swine
When we allow the attitude of dishonour to reign in our marriage, what follows is a destructive and negative feeling towards that person.
As soon as we give it a place in our mind every feeling of positive emotion or love will be lost for your spouse, consequently this type of questions being to pop up in your head
- why did i marry him/her
- i got the wrong person
- I am stuck with him /her
To compound the problem every small acts turn so irritable that often turn very argumentative and sometimes violence and other issues that often become grounds for divorce.
Friends, it is worth all the hard work to get your relationship back on track, if it is on track you can strengthen it.
As the sayings goes "old habits die hard" yes it may be hard, it is not impossible. Let us get so motivated to keep dishonour out of our marriage.
Start by making a list of what you have identified and communicate with your spouse, ask each other how well do make you feel valued, work through the list. Pray hard, if necessary fast and pray together and see the presence of God restore to your home.
